Habitat for Neighborhood Business® is a tax exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, Your gift is tax deductible as allowed by law. We take seriously our responsibility for good stewardship of the funds you provide on behalf of our entrepreneurs and support of the under-served neighborhoods we strive to improve. We welcome and appreciate your gift, large or small, and invite you to select a program below you may wish tosupport.
We believe we are the only mentoring service offering anything comparable to the programs assembled below.
Matching Grant Program
Following a year of successful program participation, the mentor team may apply for a capital or program grant in an amount equal to their entrepreneur’s investment. The maximum grant from HNB is $1,000.00 within any 24 month period.
Fair Lending Fund
Often limited business experience, smaller loan needs and/or operating in locations within under-served neighborhoods result in higher rates or refusals to lend. HNB has committed to support local banks who agree to offer business loans at “reasonable” terms and rates for entrepreneurs our staff
vetted as acceptable.
Business Plan or Capstone Project, with Grant
Our affiliation with respected universities permits our mentorship program to reach a higher level of value with Faculty directed, Capstone or Business Plan student projects.* For projects selected by the HNB team and school faculty will include a grant for up to $2,500 for the execution of the team’s recommendations. Having advance knowledge of these funds give the entrepreneur added incentive to more fully participate in the effort and the
faculty/student team a target budget which will require careful balance between what is wished and what is possible.
*Masters level, typically a semester long for credit course, usually conducted by a small student team during their final year. The plan will consist of a full marketing plan, a write-up of consumer/market research, a portfolio of brand development, and an extensive, executable business plan.
Adopt an Entrepreneur
This program provides for the general support for each entrepreneur which we budget at $3,000 per year. Our mentor team generally consists of what we call “our volunteer army” of business professionals and students, but we do have a paid program director and program coordinator, modest administrative expenses and occasionally provide stipends for student interns. We also support the grants described above. We are proud of and invite you to check our Federal Form 990 online or call us for a copy.
Endowment
It is HNB’s goal that every university affiliate creates a financially sound program. To support that goal, should you prefer to donate to an affiliate university’s Habitat for Neighborhood Business endowment, 100% will pass directly through to the affiliate University of your choice.
