ABOUT HABITAT FOR NEIGHBORHOOD BUSINESS
We are Habitat for Neighborhood Business
Habitat for Neighborhood Business is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to revitalizing underserved neighborhoods with new and additional business activity, job growth, and developing additional role models. Primarily through our affiliated colleges and universities, we help entrepreneurs in these neighborhoods realize their dream of starting, owning, and operating a business in under-resourced neighborhoods.

Throughout our more than 15 years in collaboration with St. Louis University’s Chaiffetz School of Business, we have refined and expanded our support for more than 50 entrepreneurs in underserved neighborhoods throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area. As we look ahead, Habitat for Neighborhood Business aims to take the best practices established to collaborate with additional colleges and universities to support entrepreneurs in underserved neighborhoods and restore economic vitality nationwide.

Urban Communities through the years
Decades ago, most urban communities were virtually cities within cities. Residents of these neighborhoods largely lived, worked, prayed and played within their communities. Major street corners and town centers were alive and bustling with a wide array of service and retail businesses, cafes and restaurants. The youth within these communities were able to find work at these businesses and learned valuable life lessons from their caring owners who doubled as role models, providing a stabilizing influence within the community.
